Get your students counting while having fun WITH FUN COUNTING MATS.  These counting mats are super versatile.  You can reuse them over and over again and have students place the counting objects on the mat (laminate them).  

Use them as an a seasonal/holiday craft activity!  More lesson ideas are below with each them.

Below are all the products we have used with our Fun Counting Mats.  Let us know if you have used anything else.

• POPCORN THEME – This one is fun for all year round and great to integrate with a movie or show.  Use popcorn or pompoms.  Glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

  • Bring in an hot air popcorn popper and make popcorn!

• FLOWER THEME – This theme is wonderful all year round. Use artificial, dried or real flowers, pom poms and glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

  • Take the class outside and pick fresh flowers to integrate into a lesson.  Picking dandelions is a nice way to explain how some people see a flower and some see a weed.  Then use the flowers on the counting mat.  

• TREE THEME – This theme is helpful when teaching about the seasons. Use artificial or real leaves and glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

  • For a homework assignment ask the students to go home and bring in 20 leaves.

  • Take the class on a walk about outside and look for leaves to do with the project. 

• PUMPKIN THEME – This is a nice autumn theme or for Halloween.  Use pumpkin candies or orange pom poms.

• MONSTER THEME – This one is fun for Halloween.  These  eyes are super fun.  Use the adhesive backs or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

• NIGHT SKY THEME – Here is another cultural, festive holiday theme.  It is helpful with teaching about the all holiday activities.  Plastic gold coins, chocolate gold coins or gold/silver metallic pom poms are fun for this theme. *THE GLOW IN THE DARK STARS REALLY MAKE THE PROJECT UNIQUE!  Do the activity in a dark room or display them are artwork with very dim light.  The students like to take it home to hang in their bedrooms to see the stars at night.

• TURKEY THEME – This theme is great for Thanksgiving pre-teaching.  Use pipe cleanser or faux feathers.  Glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

• BALLOON THEME – This theme can be integrated with any kind of celebration including a field day, fun fridays or student’s birthday.  Pipe cleaners, ribbon, string or pieces of yarn work well with this one.

• SNOWMAN THEME – This is a fun Winter/ holiday activity.  Use white pom poms or marshmallows or cotton balls.

• CHRISTMAS TREE THEME – This theme is helpful with teaching about the classic cultural holiday activity.  Pom poms or decorative beads are perfect for this one.

• HANUKKAH GELT THEME – Here is another cultural, festive holiday theme.  It is helpful with teaching about the all holiday activities.  Plastic gold coins, chocolate gold coins or gold/silver metallic pom poms are fun for this theme.  The metallic pom poms are very festive.  A combination of the coins and pom poms is another way to do this them.  The kids love the contrasting tactile feel of both.

• COCOA THEME – This theme works through out the autumn and winter or anytime hot chocolate or cocoas are on the menu.  Of course, marshmallows are useful for this them but pom poms or cotton balls are an option also.

• CUPID THEME – This theme is fun during the Valentine’s day season. Use candy hearts and glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

• FISH BOWL – This fun theme is useful year round.  Glue orange or green pipe cleaners or pieces of yarn or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

• LUCKY COINS –  This theme is great for St. Patrick’s day activities.  Plastic gold coins, chocolate gold coins or gold/silver metallic pom poms are perfect for this theme.

• NEST THEME – Here is some SPRING FUN!  Jelly beans, pom poms or small malted eggs are nice or this craft.  Glue or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.  

• • For a lesson idea, the students can go outside and look for a bird’s nest.

  • It is also interesting to show that many eggs are different colors brown, white, blue on the outside.  Then crack open the eggs and demonstrate how they are the same on the inside just like all of us.

• BUNNY THEME – This is another spring project idea.  Glue green pipe cleaners or green popsicle sticks or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

  • Send the students home with a little bag and ask them to find 20 pieces of grass for homework.

  • Take the students outside and look for 20 pieces of grass for the project.

• JELLYFISH THEME – This theme can integrated with sea life.  Pipe cleaners, ribbon, string or pieces of yarn are fun for this one. 

• OCEAN THEME – This is useful for lesson plans related to to the ocean and fish.  Glue goldfish or swedish fish candies or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.

• BEACH THEME – This theme introduces the summer activities and good for ESY.  Glue little sea shells  candies or just place them on the number mats and reuse them over and over.
